OUR STORY

More Than a House. A Place with Purpose.

Four centuries of stories. One very special house. A new chapter still being written.

OUR STORY

A House with a Past. A New Chapter to Write.

Four centuries of stories. A house shaped by those who came before us, with its next chapter still unfolding.

Ladyburn House has always been a place with purpose. A house with centuries of stories already held within its walls, it felt less like something for us to create and more like something we had been entrusted to continue.

Today, Ladyburn House is an exclusive-use private estate in the heart of South Ayrshire, a place to pause, reconnect, celebrate life's milestones and create memories that stay with you long after you leave. We see ourselves not simply as owners, but as custodians of this very special house and land, honouring its past while lovingly writing its next chapter.

A Home Designed for Gathering

We believe the most meaningful moments in life happen when people come together, a wedding surrounded by family and friends, a leadership team stepping away from the demands of everyday work to think more clearly, a group of women reconnecting with themselves, friends sharing stories around the fire after a day on Scotland's world-famous golf courses, or a family finally finding uninterrupted time together.

Ladyburn House exists to hold that space: wood fires lit in the evenings, long tables set for shared meals, gardens with room to wander and talk, quiet corners for the conversations that need privacy, and open rooms for the moments that deserve celebration.

Every decision we've made has been shaped around one simple question: what helps people slow down and truly be together?

IN NENAH'S OWN WORDS

Why Ladyburn Exists

Ladyburn began with a simple idea: to create a place where people could come together properly, with time, privacy and room to breathe.

We wanted a house that felt beautiful but never untouchable; considered, but still like a home. Somewhere retreats, weddings, celebrations and private stays could unfold without feeling rushed or anonymous.

That idea still guides how we host today.

Fewer Guests. More Attention.

Ladyburn House was never created to be a place where one group leaves and another simply takes its place. From the beginning, our vision was to offer something more personal, a beautiful private country house where every gathering feels considered, every guest feels welcome, and no two stays need to be quite the same.

We deliberately keep the number of gatherings we host limited, allowing us to give each one the care, time and attention it deserves. With nine individually appointed en-suite bedrooms, Ladyburn welcomes just one group at a time, offering complete privacy alongside the warmth and reassurance of thoughtful, personal hosting.

Whether you're bringing generations of your family together, celebrating a milestone, gathering friends or hosting a meaningful retreat, we take time to understand what matters to you. From preparing the house and arranging bedroom configurations to organising private dining, wellness treatments and those little personal touches, we believe it's the details that turn a beautiful stay into a memorable experience.

We're not interested in being the busiest venue. We're interested in making the time people spend here truly special.

It's a quieter, more considered approach to hospitality, one built around people, not numbers.

FOUNDERS BEHIND LADYBURN

Nenah Favelle & James Hamilton

Ladyburn is our home, our work and the place we have chosen to build the next chapter of our lives.

We live here, host here and know the house in all its seasons. That is part of what makes a stay at Ladyburn feel personal. The house is genuinely cared for by the people behind it.

For hosted stays, we are close by to help things run smoothly and quietly take care of the details around your time here. For private, unhosted stays, we give you the space and privacy to enjoy Ladyburn entirely at your own pace.

We have our own separate, self-contained accommodation on the estate. The main house, gardens and guest wellness spaces remain exclusively yours throughout your stay.

The Ladyburn Oak

At the heart of the estate stands a magnificent ancient oak. Long before we became part of Ladyburn's story, it stood quietly watching generations gather beneath its branches.

The land surrounding Ladyburn has welcomed people for generations.

Over time, the oak has come to represent everything we believe Ladyburn stands for: strength, wisdom, resilience and growth. Its roots remind us that meaningful experiences are built on strong foundations. Its branches remind us that possibility continues reaching outward, creating space for others.

People arrive at Ladyburn for many different reasons: some come to celebrate, some to heal, some to rest, some to reconnect, and some simply to spend precious time with the people they love. Whatever brings them here, we hope they leave feeling lighter, stronger and carrying something meaningful home with them.

The oak has become our philosophy as much as our emblem.

OUR HISTORY

Centuries of Stories. One Very Special House.

THE 1300s

Kilkerran

The Fergusson family's connection to the lands of Kilkerran stretches back to the time of Robert the Bruce, when a royal charter confirmed their place on the land. Ladyburn sits within that long story, beside the estate the family has called home for centuries.

THE 1600s

The Beginnings of Ladyburn

Ladyburn is believed to date from the 1600s, and has grown and changed over the centuries, with later additions sitting alongside its older character. It is said to have served for many years as the dower house of the Fergusson family of Kilkerran, a home close to the main house.

THE 1700s AND 1800s

Generations at Kilkerran

Through these centuries the Fergusson family shaped the estate around us. The baronetcy was created in 1703, and Kilkerran House and its grounds developed across the generations. Ladyburn's story is part of that wider landscape.

THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY

A Chapter Still Being Uncovered

Ladyburn's story continued through the early decades of the twentieth century. We are piecing this chapter together from surviving records and archive material.

LATER DECADES

A House That Kept Evolving

In later decades Ladyburn became home to the Hepburn family, whose gardens were featured on the BBC's Beechgrove Garden. They cared for the house until 2019. A new owner then began to renovate it, but when Covid disrupted those plans, Ladyburn changed hands again.

2023

Our Chapter Begins

In 2023 we, Nenah and James, became Ladyburn's next custodians. We carried the renovation forward, and in time opened the house as an exclusive-use home for weddings, retreats, celebrations and stays. Love Lives Here.

The Life Around the House

Ladyburn has grown naturally around the people who come through the door.

Retreat leaders bring their work here. Couples gather the people they love. Families and friends mark important moments. Chefs, practitioners and local collaborators each add something of their own.

The house changes with every group, while still feeling unmistakably Ladyburn.

Looking Ahead

Ladyburn House is more than the building you see today. It's where families gather, friendships deepen, ideas are born, businesses reconnect, and people celebrate, heal and rest.

It's also a gateway to everything we love about this corner of Scotland, its breathtaking coastline, championship golf at Turnberry, Prestwick and Royal Troon, exceptional local food, rich history and the slower pace of life that so many people come here searching for.

Every experience here is created with intention. We feel incredibly privileged to be part of Ladyburn's story. And we'd love to welcome you into it.

Love Lives Here. Not because of the house itself, but because of the people who arrive, the stories they bring, the memories they create, and the part of themselves they take home.

Because ultimately, Ladyburn House isn't simply somewhere you visit. It's somewhere that stays with you.

Ladyburn sits in a landscape rich with its own stories: Burns Country, clifftop castles and the villages of South Ayrshire. Explore the wider area's heritage in Discover Ayrshire.
